Jail for man (52) who made threats to shoot door staff and their families and sexually assault police officer

Wayne Christopher Metcalfe (38229565)

A MAN who said he would shoot a St Helier bar鈥檚 door staff and their families and threatened to sexually assault a female police officer after being arrested has been jailed for six months.

The Magistrate鈥檚 Court heard that 52-year-old Wayne Metcalfe had 22 previous convictions for drunk and disorderly behaviour, and 18 for threatening and abusive behaviour in the UK.

The new offences were committed last week, two months after his release from prison.

Advocate Katie Ridley, prosecuting, said Metcalfe had been in the Oche Club, a darts bar at the Weighbridge, just after midnight on Sunday morning, looking for someone to fight.

She said: 鈥淗e took his T-shirt off. He was told to put it back on but refused. He was asked to leave.鈥

Metcalfe resisted attempts to remove him and started spitting on the ground.

The States police arrived, and Advocate Ridley said: 鈥淗e continued spitting on the pavement and swearing. He was arrested and in the van he threatened to physically and sexually harm a female police officer.鈥

The advocate added that in the early hours of Wednesday morning Metcalfe was refused admission to St James Wine Bar.

She said: 鈥淗e told the door staff: 鈥業鈥檓 going home to collect a gun and I鈥檓 going to shoot you and your whole families.鈥欌夆

Metcalfe admitted drunk and disorderly behaviour and using threatening and abusive words likely to cause alarm or distress.

Advocate Lucy Marks, defending, pointed out that he had entered the pleas at an early stage.

She said: 鈥淗e is willing to complete community service. An exclusion order could deal with this type of offending.鈥

But Magistrate Bridget Shaw said only jail was possible. She told Metcalfe: 鈥淵ou have a really terrible record. You have recently been released from custody and that doesn鈥檛 seem to have mended your ways. There is no non-custodial option available to the court that the court is confident you would abide by.鈥

She also banned him from pubs and bars.
